As the temperatures start to cool, Fall fashion is on all of our minds. Check out our Phresh Fall photoshoot for that burst of inspiration to change up your look this season.
This week we’ll go behind the scenes and chat with Annie about her model, Abbie, and the steps she took to create her gorgeous color, style, and makeup for the shoot.
Annie has been a stylist since 2006 and specializes in maximizing fine hair; detailed foils; short pixie and men’s precision cuts; grey-hair blending; creating seamless layers and dimension in lengthy hair; polished but “messy” styling, and enhancing naturally wavy hair.
Annie, tell us first about what you did for Abbie’s makeup? We are loving the smoky eye for Fall!
Abbie’s irises are an amazing light green-blue, so to make them pop, we made a heavy but soft smokey eye using the Jane Iredale line. I began with a shiny eye primer, Canvas, then did a tight pencil black/gray liner with a liquid liner tracing on the top lash. Then, I softened everything with Dusk, a shimmering charcoal color, then layered “Double Espresso”,a matte brown, over that to mute the shimmer slightly. Then of course, the brows. Abbie is naturally blonde, so we darkened them with the brunette Bitty Brow Kit and used “Auburn” a warmer brow gel over that. For her skin, I used Glow Time BB cream #3 and “Radiant” Purepressed Powder as foundation and topped off with a trace of “Copper Wind” blush, and then Kelly tabbed on a few lashes to really make her eyes pop.
Tell us about her hair color. How did you get that stunning red?
Abbie came in with a blonde root and beautiful red locks that had faded over the past month. We liked how it faded, so we touched up the roots with a medium golden red using Wella Koleston Perfect, mixing 2 parts 7/4 to one part 6/43 for the base and pulling through slices of Color Touch equal parts 9/3, 77/45, and 8/43 to add dimension and brighter pops of a slightly cooler red. The final step was key to locking in shine and softness. I mixed Wella’s premium color line, Illumina, for microlight shine and softness with a conditioner and processed under a dryer for 15 minutes.
Tell us about your inspiration for the photoshoot styling.
We were inspired by a top, half pony seen on Lauren Conrad, the queen of cute and preppy. After a round brush set, we backcombed the top, then loosely pulled it up. It really complimented her youthful exuberance and adorable outfit from Primp!
We want to give a special thanks to our collaborators for this photoshoot, Geneoh Photography and Primp Boutique.
