All about the Curls: Phresh Summer ’16

Check out our Phresh Summer ’16 shoot! This time around it’s all about the pure essence of summer: easy, fun, and sunkissed.

This week we chat with Layne and Kate, who did Karlee’s hair and makeup for the shoot. Layne has been a hairstylist since 2010 and building relationships with her clients is her favorite part of her job. A few of her specialties in dimensional blondes, redheads, razor cuts and bobs. Kate has been an esthetician since 2009, and is passionate about caring for your skin, designing the perfect brow, and applying makeup that defines your unique beauty.

Layne, tell us what you did to prep Karlee’s hair for the photoshoot?

Karlee already had a beautiful, caramel toned balayage so I did a clear Wella Relights to seal in the color and add extra shine.

How did you style her hair, and what was your inspiration?

Anyone with curly hair knows that fighting your hair in summer heat is a struggle, so why not embrace your curls and love them? With the right products you can get perfect curls every day. I ran Oribe Supershine, Royal Blowout, and Gel Serum through her hair while wet, and then diffused it. Supershine is one of my favorite curly hair products because it fights frizz, boosts shine, and deeply moisturizes. Royal Blowout and Gel Serum give the necessary hold and more shine.

Kate, what was your inspiration for Karlee’s makeup, and what products did you use to create the look?

Karlee has such a beautiful skin tone, so I used a copper palette which really compliments it. I wanted her makeup to look fresh and glowing. I used Jane Iredale Glow Time Foundation in BB9, Bittersweet Pressed Powder, and So Bronze 2. Then I used Sunbeam Bronzer on her cheeks and just the copper portion on her eyes, as well as the Double Dazzle highlighter pencil. I finished with Longest Lash in Black Ice and NYC Just Kissed Lipstick, a shimmering nude.

We want to give a special thanks to our partners for this photoshoot, Geneoh Photography and Primp Boutique. Wardrobe styling by Marissa, the manager of Primp West End.
